A FAMILY HOTEL WITH A LONG TRADITION
Medun Fest brings unique sweet and salty delicacies

Medun Fest this weekend will introduce several novelties dedicated to this healthy forest product to the well-known dishes of the Bitoraj restaurant. The goal of Medun Fest is to popularize and brand the forest honeydew, which is specific to the Gorski Kotar region. Honeydew is a bee product that does not come from flower nectar but from plant juices from deeper layers of plants. The gastronomic event takes place on Saturday, September 5th, and the specialty offerings at the Bitoraj restaurant will be available throughout the weekend.

Medun Fest at the Bitoraj Restaurant

For this occasion, the chefs at the Bitoraj restaurant have prepared three excellent dishes. They will complement them with homemade honey brandy and honey cookies from their regular menu.

As an appetizer, you should try the risotto with floral pollen and honeydew. The sweet taste of the bee product pairs wonderfully with walnuts, pear, and gorgonzola. This harmonious mixture of seemingly incompatible flavors will make this dish a favorite among those who love surprising but delicious gastronomic combinations.

Risotto with floral pollen and honeydew

For the main course, there is a stuffed roasted duck with honeydew and orange on the menu. This is a specialty that takes several hours to prepare, but the divine taste is worth every minute spent. Juicy meat with a crispy “crust,” sweetened with oranges and honeydew, simply melts in your mouth.

After the duck, the best way to satisfy your sweet tooth is with “bee pancakes.” In addition to floral pollen and honey, these crispy pancakes also contain apples, and they are spiced with cinnamon and – cognac.

The special menu at the Bitoraj restaurant and hotel will be available throughout the weekend, so take advantage of the opportunity to try these new dishes that will delight you.

A tasty and healthy bee product

After enjoying the gastronomic delights at Bitoraj, you can continue exploring the honeydew offerings in Lika. Fužine and nearby places will connect not only through a special gastronomic offer but also a little train that you can ride for free.

Medun Fest starts at 4:00 PM with a grand opening, and the festivities will continue until midnight with educational workshops, tastings, and music. Visitors will also have the opportunity to taste the first Gorski Kotar ice cream made from forest honeydew! This treat, created by chef Dino Galvagno, is flavored with pine needles and served in a specially prepared cone made from hazelnut flour.

Become part of this family tradition

The Kauzlarić family has been creating the story of the Bitoraj restaurant and hotel for decades, following the tradition of the first pension in Fužina, Neda, opened way back in 1933.
